Relationships and Childrearing=The Fundamentals
Step Tisa (9.) Relationships-The African family unit has been destroyed, a consequence of the Maafa. However, healthy families are the foundation of healthy communities. The male-female relationship has to be restored for this to take place. To facilitate this, the rehabilition program centers of the "Rites of Passage concept. Boys must learn to become Men first, husbands second, and fathers third. Girls must learn to become women first, wives second, and mothers third. This goes for men as well who are fathers but not husbands. This is not to disrespect the many brothers and sisters who are in these positions. However, it is to restore the village that it takes to raise a child. For that to take place, healthy relationships must be the order of the day. Establishing healthy and sound relationships, dating practices and commitment must be re-established. If not, the child can grow up to repeat what is in front of him or her. Again, this will stem from the culture that is established. (Note: When we talk about marriage we mean the commitment not just the act. Being committed to your mate through thick and thin.)

Childrearing- Stemming from the previous step, Proper Childrearing practices will establish a code of conduct, foster a value system that takes pride in being African and enforces the priority of marriage and family in the children. Simply put, proper child rearing will teach boys how to become men, husbands, and fathers in that order. Likewise, Girls will learn to become women, wives and mothers.
